Planning notes
Long-distance connections link Berlin and Munich, with ICE services among the options. Stops and journey times vary by departure. Check whether your fare is tied to a specific train and consider a seat reservation for busy travel days.
Direct ICE trains and journey times
Berlin Hbf and München Hbf are linked by direct ICE trains. The DB route page checked on 11 October 2026 showed sample direct journeys of roughly four to five hours. Some departures are ICE Sprinter services with fewer stops. These are planning examples, not a live timetable: the selected date, route and engineering works determine your actual journey time.
Compare the actual ICE journey
Search Berlin Hbf to München Hbf for your travel date, then compare direct services and transfers. Check intermediate stops and any engineering-work notices instead of treating a typical travel time as a promise. A journey from Berlin Südkreuz may be useful for your accommodation, but the station must match the selected ticket.
Choose a fare and a seat separately
Compare the displayed saver and flexible fares for all passengers. A train-bound ticket normally requires the booked long-distance service; a Deutschland-Ticket does not normally cover this ICE journey. Check whether a reservation is included, and consider one when travelling together or on a busy departure. Confirm bicycle arrangements before buying if needed.
Arrive in Munich with an onward plan
Check construction notices and walking routes at München Hbf before connecting to city transport. Search your accommodation as the final destination and verify any local fare separately. For a Bavarian day trip on a later day, compare regional options rather than assuming the Berlin–Munich ticket includes further travel.
Questions about this guide
Is there a direct train from Berlin to Munich?
Yes. DB lists direct ICE services between Berlin Hbf and München Hbf. Check the selected departure for its stops, journey time and whether it also calls at Berlin Südkreuz.
Does an ICE Sprinter ticket include a reserved seat?
The Sprinter label describes the service, not a seat entitlement. Check the fare and class to see whether a reservation is included or needs to be added.
