Pack for a journey you can manage yourself
DB permits hand luggage plus one larger item that one person can carry, free of charge. Ordinary luggage does not need a reservation. Choose bags you can lift and stow yourself, keep doors and aisles clear, and supervise your valuables. A seat reservation does not reserve a luggage rack. Check another operator’s rules separately.
A bicycle needs its own planning
An assembled bicycle is accepted only on suitable services. DB long-distance travel requires a bicycle ticket and bicycle-space reservation booked before the journey; not every ICE has bicycle spaces. Add the bicycle when searching and check availability on every leg. A passenger seat reservation does not secure a bicycle space.
Regional travel and folding bicycles
Local bicycle fares, restricted times and available capacity vary; a Deutschland-Ticket does not automatically include the bicycle. DB does not offer bicycle-space reservations on local trains. A fully folded bicycle that can be safely stowed can travel as hand luggage without a bicycle ticket or space reservation under DB’s rules.
Make the transfer practical
Check station maps and lift availability when a bicycle, pushchair or heavy bag makes stairs difficult. Leave enough time to reach the right carriage section and follow platform announcements. If mobility assistance is needed, arrange it with the operator ahead of travel and confirm the meeting point rather than relying on staff being available at a tight connection.
