Read the departure display

Check the train number, destination, departure time and platform. Platforms can change, and a train’s final destination may be beyond your stop. Follow current announcements and platform signs.

Allow time to change

A short connection can be harder with luggage, children or reduced mobility. Check station layouts and lift availability. If you need assistance, arrange it with the operator in advance and confirm the meeting point.

When plans change

If a service is disrupted, consult the operator’s current journey information and passenger-rights guidance. Keep your tickets and relevant evidence. Refunds and rerouting depend on the journey, disruption and applicable rules.

Check whether the connection is on one ticket

Keep the itinerary and the ticket together so you can identify the destination covered by your travel contract. If separate tickets cover separate legs, do not assume a late first train protects the second booking. This is particularly important when using a Deutschland-Ticket to reach a separately booked, train-bound ICE.

Questions about this guide

Is a short timetable connection always practical?

No. Check the platform change, walking route, lift availability and luggage needs. Choose more transfer time when those factors make the listed connection difficult.
