Planning notes
Explore a journey from Berlin to Saxony’s capital. Check the exact Berlin departure station and your arrival at Dresden Hauptbahnhof or Dresden-Neustadt. International through-services can have their own reservation and fare conditions.
Direct trains are not all branded ICE
Direct long-distance trains connect Berlin Hbf and Dresden Hbf. The DB route page checked on 11 October 2026 showed Railjet (RJ) and Railjet Xpress (RJX) examples taking about one hour forty minutes to two hours. Train categories and stopping patterns can change, so search all suitable long-distance services rather than filtering only for ICE. The listed examples do not guarantee a duration or a reservation rule for your departure.
Compare departures and through services
Search Berlin to Dresden for your date and confirm the actual Berlin boarding station. Some services continue beyond Dresden into another country, so the final destination on the board may not say Dresden. Use the train number, departure time and stopping pattern. Reservation and fare conditions depend on the particular service and ticket.
Choose Hbf or Neustadt for your stay
Dresden Hbf and Dresden-Neustadt serve different parts of the city. Compare your hotel’s location and local onward travel before selecting the arrival stop. Check whether the train calls at your preferred station and whether any onward local journey needs another ticket.
Keep regional excursions separate
For a later trip through Saxony, search the actual destination and compare regional ticket coverage. A Berlin–Dresden long-distance ticket is not a regional holiday pass. Check the return train and any onward bus or walking segment for day trips, and review disruption information before setting out.
Questions about this guide
Do I have to choose an ICE to travel directly to Dresden?
No. The DB route page also lists direct Railjet and Railjet Xpress services. Check the actual train category, stops and ticket conditions for your travel date.
Should I arrive at Dresden Hbf or Dresden-Neustadt?
Choose the stop that fits your accommodation and onward transport, and verify that your train calls there. Dresden Hbf is at Wiener Platz; Dresden-Neustadt is a separate station north of the Elbe.
